Officers’ pavilion in Komárno

Neo-Gothic building of former Officers’ pavilion is situated in neighbourhood of gen. Klapka Square in direction towards New and Old fortress. It was built in period between 1858 and 1863 in Neo-Geothic style inspired by the English Gothic. There is inscription on its main facade: VIRIBVS VNITIS – Strength in unity - motto of Franz Joseph I. Originally the building served as complex of officers’ apartments for officers of imperial and royal army and their families.

On the ground floor there was founded a casino for officers that nowadays serves for town’s representational purposes. The building is seat of Municipal Authority, J. Selye University, editorial office of Komárňanské listy and seat of Komárňanská televízia, Union of Hungarian Pedagogues in Slovakia and various medical practices. Amphitheatre was built in courtyard according to project of Ing. Oliver Csémy and with financial support of PHARE CREDO fund in 1999-2000. Bridge, located in courtyard, symbolizes cooperation of Komárno and Komárom. Also bust of János Selye is situated in the courtyard.
